During the first few days of February, Winter Storm Landon made its way to Texas, bringing snow, ice, and temperatures in the teens. In Dallas, where about 4,500 people face homelessness each day and four out of five are living without shelter, the severe cold was a threat that needed immediate action. Seeing the need, OurCalling, a Christ-centered nonprofit serving the homeless in Dallas, rallied the community, and Gateway was honored to lend some helping hands.

With the chilling temperatures threatening many lives, OurCalling organized an inclement weather shelter to bring safety and relief to those stuck in the brutal elements. Gateway was able to provide 4,300 meals for more than 1,000 people at the shelter, and more than 20 volunteers from Gateway had an opportunity to serve alongside OurCalling volunteers.

“This was a perfect opportunity to love our neighbors,” says Jeremy Patty, associate campus pastor for the Dallas Campus. Gateway is grateful to find ministry partners like OurCalling that we can serve alongside to bless our local communities. “By the grace of God and the partnership of the Church, we can do great things,” says Patrick Palmer of OurCalling.

There are many ways you can get involved at your campus, such as joining a small group focused on serving together regularly. Explore all the opportunities today at gatewaypeople.com/ministries/outreach.
