“My mother was a practicing witch. She was always seeking spiritual truths and knowledge. One day, when I was in early elementary school, a woman came to our door and invited my mom to participate in a Bible study. She accepted that invitation, mainly because she thought it would be a great way to gain more knowledge to become a more powerful witch. But over the course of the Bible study, she came to understand who Jesus is and came to faith in Him. Shortly after, I came home from school and found her burning all her tarot cards and books and all her other tools of witchcraft like the Ouiji board. It was a little freaky for me because I knew how much she valued those things so I asked her what she was doing. She explained that she believed Jesus was God and that she didn’t need those things anymore. I didn’t really understand what she meant and just went on my way. Around that same time, my father was working for a man who was a believer, and he and his wife invited my parents to dinner where he witnessed to my father and explained the road to salvation. My father became a Christian that night in the restaurant, and I began to see him change too. I remember the first time he told me he loved me. I wasn’t sure what was going on, but he said that he wanted to do things better. Afterward, we all started attending a church a couple blocks from my house—the pastor was married to the woman who knocked on our door to invite my mom to the Bible study. There my parents made me attend a children’s Bible memorization program. As a kid with dyslexia and ADD, it was not fun, but one night a gentleman was explaining the meaning of John 3:16, and that was the first time it clicked. I understood what my parents becoming Christians meant and what it meant to be a follower of Christ and receive eternal life. That night I raised my hand to start my relationship with Jesus too, and I’ve been following Him ever since.”
