Pastor Daniel Floyd was officially commissioned as the new lead pastor of Gateway Church during weekend services August 16 and 17. The Gateway family was thrilled to welcome him, Pastor Tammie, and the whole Floyd family into the church, and we are so excited to continue getting to know more about Pastor Daniel, his family, and their heart for the Church! So, let’s get started …

A quick Google search would tell you Pastor Daniel moved to Texas from Virginia, has served as a pastor for more than 20 years, founded Lifepoint Church and Lifepoint College, and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southeastern University and two master’s degrees from Liberty Theological Seminary. You’d also learn that he’s married to his wonderful wife, Tammie, and together, they have four kids whom they love dearly.

But who is Pastor Daniel really? A few weeks ago, members of the Gateway Church Communication’s Team had the opportunity to sit down with Pastor Daniel and ask him some very important questions. Here’s what they found out:

  • Pastor Daniel has a deep love for any and all types of Italian food.
  • When pressed about music, he’ll admit he has a soft spot for the country genre (featuring Brad Paisley), but one of his all-time favorite artists will always be his dear friend Brandon Lake.
  • He and Pastor Tammie have been married for 21 incredible years (as of 2025), and one of his best pieces of marriage advice is to forgive quickly.
  • Currently, his favorite book of the Bible is 2 Chronicles (ask him about it next time you see him!), and his go-to translation is NIV.
  • He’ll never say no to a decaf Americano, two Stevia (he’s a rare one who purely drinks his coffee for the flavor, not the caffeine).
  • A fan of the oldies and the action, his three favorite movies are Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick, and the Rocky movies.
  • And perhaps the most widely debated opinion of all: if you asked Pastor Daniel to lunch and gave him the options of In and Out, Shake Shack, or Whataburger, he would choose to meet you at In and Out

But even more than simply getting to know Pastor Daniel in a fun way, the team truly experienced his heart for connection, his desire for joy and laughter, and his love for God and His people. We’re excited to continue getting to know Pastors Daniel and Tammie on a deeper level! If you see them in the lobby of one of our Gateway campuses or out in the wild navigating the Texas heat, introduce yourself, offer a hug (they said they’re huggers!), and ask them some questions of your own. We’re all family here, and they can’t wait to get to know you, too.
