Your Deepest Desire.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father … that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
–Ephesians 3:14, 17–19 (ESV)
Your deepest desire—though you don’t often realize it—is to “know the love of Christ” and be “filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19, ESV). Cascading, descending, plunging from on high, God’s waterfall of love is a daily downpour—drenching you with different layers of His love to meet your every need. His deep layer of love heals you from the pain of your sins and the sins done against you. His wide layer of love floods you with great capacity to love others. And oh! His long layers of love for you—displaying His beautiful handiwork—are so redemptive, so ironic, that your past sins give you a ministry to the broken, and your past wounds give you a glimpse into the forgiving heart of God.
His endless layers of affection are always available because of Jesus’ work on the cross. His sacrifice grants you freedom to ask boldly for these much-needed fillings (see Hebrews 4:14–16). “Know how dearly God loves [you], because he has given [you] the Holy Spirit to fill [your heart] with his love” (Romans 5:5, NLT). Just ask Him. The Father longs to saturate the empty well of your heart with “the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.”
God’s Love for You
Knowing His love, really believing God loves you, is a revelation you need daily—His provision, your portion. Much like the ancient manna, “the Lord’s lovingkindnesses … are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22–23, NASB). So, ask Him every day. Ask Him all day. Ask Him to reveal His overflowing love for you while you’re sleeping. And God’s passionate surplus for you will make you love Him more (remember, we love because He first loved us). Creating in you a heart of continuous worship, His gushing and rushing streams of lovingkindness will flow through you, spilling onto your family, your friends, your enemies, and everyone you meet.
This “fullness of God,” His presence and love, is what your heart needs and longs for, giving you identity, security, healing, and the capacity to love others. Getting married, having children, or enjoying close friendships will never bring you the experience of perfect love—only God can satisfy your deepest longing. God is your True Love because He is love (1 John 4:8). Daily revelations of His layers upon layers of love are worth praying for. And this is a prayer our Father loves answering.
