COURSE OUTLINE

Week 1 | Getting in the Game
Are you ready for this season? You’re going to have to ask yourself some tough questions. This course will prepare you spiritually for the job search ahead as well as provide you with the truth you need to have a positive and godly attitude during this time. You’ll learn how to set healthy expectations and how to manage your time and finances to meet those expectations.

Week 2 | Career Direction Workshop
Do you know God has a purpose for your life? According to Psalm 139:13–16, God’s purpose for you was planned even before you were born. In this workshop, we’ll inventory your skills, natural traits, interests and values to help you identify the type of work you were gifted for. As you pursue that work, you’ll align yourself with God’s plan for your life and move ahead with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re unemployed, underemployed or simply seeking to clarify your purpose in the workplace, this class is the first step to fulfilling God’s plan for your life.

Week 3 | Résumé Workshop
Is your résumé as strong as it needs to be? In this workshop, you’ll see many different kinds of résumés (chronological, skills-based, etc.) to help you determine the right résumé for you in your job search. You’ll also have the opportunity to have your résumé critiqued.

Week 4 | Networking/Job-Lead Generation Workshop
In this workshop, you’ll discover how geometrical networking can affect job enhancement and job search activities as well as your life in general. When networking is used correctly, it renews languishing friendships, cultivates new ones and is the single most-effective tool in finding the right job. You’ll rediscover the principle of sowing the seeds of relationships and giving of yourself first. “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed,” (Proverbs 11:25). This segment will address what networking is, but more importantly, we’ll discuss specifically what it isn’t. You’ll receive a listing of networking organizations in the Metroplex and learn some unique and effective ways to network with total strangers in almost any situation, which is a must for every serious job seeker.

Week 5 | Interviewing Workshop (Part I)
In this workshop, we’ll cover how to best interview for a job as well as common mistakes and visual nuances to avoid. We’ll address how you should react to common statements like, “You’re overqualified for the job.” or “You have some great skills, but you’re missing one of the key skills.” You’ll also learn how to handle uncomfortable situations like when an interviewer crosses the line and asks inappropriate questions. Join us and make sure you’re on solid footing for your next interview.

Week 6 | Interviewing Workshop (Part II)
Have you ever left an interview feeling as if you aced it, only to find out later you weren’t chosen for the job? In this workshop, we’ll dissect the reasons why this happens and discuss common ways to reading your interviewer. You’ll also get to participate in various exercises including mock interviews to motivate you and help you think on your feet.
